Cambridgeshire Local History Book Awards
In 2001, the then Cambridgeshire Local History Society celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, and it was felt that some recognition of published work relating to Cambridgeshire, consisting of original research by local authors, would be a fitting tribute. The Cambridgeshire Local History Awards are the result and are awarded annually by the Association, based on new titles received by the Cambridgeshire Collection up until the 31st December each year.
From the vast amount of printed material and books that are deposited at the Cambridgeshire Collection each year; the Head Librarian in charge of the Collection provides the Association with a shortlist of up to 100 published items. These range from locally printed village or family histories to substantial hardback books. All these shortlisted items are carefully and individually studied and reported on. Then, during an in-depth selection process held in the spring, a final collection of between five & ten books is chosen. Those chosen this year were introduced at our gathering by their authors, as usual these proved to be very informative and highly enjoyable. The books that made the final list this covered a wide range of subjects; each finalist receives a framed certificate, signed by our President Mike Petty.

Dedication & Service to Local History in Cambridgeshire
On May 3rd 2008, Mike Petty presented the Cambridgeshire Local History Book Awards & the awards for Services to Local History and for the second time the CYPHA: Cambridgeshire Young Persons Awards
These awards are for people who have made a significant contribution to the study and accumulation of knowledge of the history of Cambridgeshire over the years. They all in their own way have moved our knowledge of Cambridgeshire on over many years. Mike Petty introduced them all, giving a short description of each ones contribution, they in turn entertained us with their amazing stories and often brilliant sense of humour; each finalist received a signed framed certificate and life membership to the Association.
